In the fall of 2025, the Queen's University Fine Art Alumni Council (FAAC) announced the creation of The André Biéler Lecture Series. This new initiative was established to celebrate and honour significant contributions to the visual arts, beginning with a focus on the legacy of André Biéler, the founder of Fine Art at Queen’s University.
The first lecture in the series featured the acclaimed filmmaker and artist Philippe Baylaucq. Baylaucq delivered a presentation on the life and work of his grandfather, André Biéler. The event included a screening of Baylaucq's film, "The Art of Time", which offered attendees an engaging exploration of Biéler’s artistic journey and his influence on the arts community.
Following the lecture and film screening, Philippe Baylaucq was joined by members of the Biéler family for closing remarks and a question-and-answer session. The panel included Nathalie Sorensen and Ted Biéler—André Biéler’s daughter and son—as well as Nathalie’s son, André Sorensen. Their collective insights provided a personal perspective on André Biéler’s enduring legacy.
The event offered valuable insights into the important contributions that André Biéler made to Visual Fine Art at Queen's University, as well as his broader impact on the community and beyond. Through the inaugural lecture, participants gained a deeper appreciation for Biéler’s role in shaping the artistic landscape at Queen’s and his influence that continues to be felt today.
